Honoring Richard Capin, Founder of CapinCrouse
Dick heeded God’s calling and left a successful corporate career to devote his accounting and business expertise to serving mission-focused nonprofits. He first served in Korea with OMS International (now One Mission Society), where he helped design and implement systems and procedures that freed missionaries from the day-to-day operations of the organization and gave them more time to minister. Then in 1972 he founded CapinCrouse, an accounting firm dedicated to serving mission-focused nonprofit organizations.
The new firm was motivated and equipped to assist mission-focused ministries in maintaining integrity and maximizing their stewardship. It was not about doing accounting, but about doing ministry through accounting.
Dick’s passion for accountability, transparency, and integrity in service to nonprofit organizations played a major role in the growth of the firm. It also had a significant impact on the accounting and financial reporting systems and procedures used by Christian ministries and other nonprofit organizations.
Over the years, Dick worked to help establish financial accounting and reporting guidance through service to organizations such as the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), Christian Management Association (which later merged with the Christian Stewardship Association to form the Christian Leadership Alliance), and the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelism.
Five decades later, Dick’s legacy lives on at CapinCrouse. It is our mission to provide innovative service to organizations whose outcomes are measured in lives changed — a mission that is at the center of everything we do.

Dick retired from CapinCrouse in 1987 but remained active in ministry, serving One Mission Society, Samaritan’s Purse, and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. While we mourn his passing, we also rejoice, knowing that he has reached his Heavenly reward, filled with peace and joy at home with the Lord.

Dick Capin was a mentor and confidant, but most of all he was my friend. He taught me not to be a respecter of persons by example. Mr. Capin was the epitomy of humility because he knew everything he was, was because of what Christ had done in his life. My life is better for having known and learned from Mr. Capin.
